On Thursday 5th January at 9:30 we meet up for another all day volunteering event. Great opportunity to work off all that festive fare and to carry out those New Year resolutions to give back something! What better than spending time in the quiet and calm working in the ‘Bald Spot’, surveying the length of Balgdon Hill village stretched out like a pearl necklace way below, as you cut back the woody growth. Or if you up for a bigger challenge coppicing the regrowth on one side that is steadily encroaching into the meadow.
We meet at the public footpath entrance to the woods, off the Feltham Road. Parking is restricted so car share or offer a seat if you can. There is a 15min. level walk to the bench that marks access to the ‘Bald Spot’. The ‘Bald Spot’ is very steep. Wear stout shoes, bring wetgear, a packed lunch and whatever hand tools, such as gloves, lopers, bowsaws, billhooks, slashers as you are willing to. We have a few tools and will provide hot drinks and biscuits. Most of all we need your enthusiasm!
Do let us know, giving a contact telephone number, if you are planning to come and watch the Facebook page and/or your EMails for any last minute changes, the weather can be unpredictable! If you are not sure that this work is for you, come along anyway and see for yourself what we are doing to keep our wood healthy. Talk to us, there maybe other ways you can help!
Next event an all day Thursday on 2nd February. Task and meeting place t.b.d.
